When shopping for Women

 

I know the holidays are over, but I wanted to take a moment to give a few hints to those who will be shopping next year for their wives/girlfriends. These hints are not only for the holidays but for birthdays, anniversaries, and special days.

When shopping for clothes, shoes, handbags, jewelry, or perfume ... take a moment to go through your significant other's closet. Note the colors she likes to wear. Check out the styles. Are there particular brands she enjoys? Does she have a lot of flower prints? Strips? Polka dots? Is she more casual with denim pants and tee-shirts or dressier with slacks and dresses? 

Is she a purse collector? If so, take a picture of her purses. This will give the salesperson an idea of what "type" of handbag she likes. Also, the style. There are many. Does she carry a wallet?  Does she have a particular brand she is fond of? What size handbag does she prefer? A clutch size, or a large one with everything in it.

Go through her jewelry and help her put it on. Not only is this sexy, but you can do some detective work while at it. Does she have a favorite piece of jewelry? Ask her why. Does she prefer gold or silver? Does she have a favorite gemstone?  Does she wear big, bold pieces or dainty ones? 

Does she have a variety of perfumes? Are they all in different-shaped bottles? Or is it one specific brand? Most women wear a particular scent because it blends well with their skin. Smell the perfume she wears. Again, this is a sexy turn-on. Breathe the scent in. What do you smell? If you can't determine what it is, ask her what she is wearing. Ask her what it smells like. This will give you an idea of what to shop for. The fragrance women have a wealth of knowledge about what scents are involved in each perfume. They can guide you in the right direction.

If you are going to shop for clothing, you need to snoop in her closet and do some detective work. Start with the shoes. Again, are they casual or dressy? Look for the size. I cannot stress this enough: CHECK FOR THE SIZE OF THE SHOES. It is usually located inside the shoe or on the outsole. You will not want to get her dress shoes if she only owns workout shoes, slippers, and hiking boots. 

For clothing, check out her shirts, dresses, and pants. What type of clothing does she wear. If most of her clothing is comfortable, like leggings, jeans, and tee shirts, you probably do not want to get her anything fancy.   If her clothing includes dress suits, slacks, and dresses, you may want to go that route. Either way, the most important thing you can do is figure out what size she wears.  Inside each item is a size label. Memorize this, or better yet, TAKE A PICTURE. 

Does she collect anything? Is she a book nerd? What types of books does she read? Are they romance, horror, historical, or drama? Does she collect figurines? 

See, women don't want you to pick up just anything. We want to know you have NOTICED what we like. This is why I am giving you a few clues for what to look for. 

Here are a couple other things you need to know when shopping for the holidays. Get it over with sooner rather than later, especially if the woman has dropped NUMEROUS hints about what she wants. For example, if your significant other wants a pair of UGG boots/shoes/slippers, BUY THEM IN NOVEMBER. Ugg only makes so many pairs a year; once they are sold out, they are gone. This is NOT an item you save for the last minute. It is also an item you want to know the size for. 

Peek in the closet, it will help you out.

                                                        The World Needs Art Tonight, I attended a gathering in support of Art. A building downtown has sold, and another Art Gallery is being pushed out, probably to make way for another (insert heavy, heavy sarcasm) mortgage or Real Estate office.  My mother is an artist, and my father is a wood-making artist. I have a sister who is not only a culinary artist but also a master seamstress and another who is a pianist, flutist, dancer, and performer.  Best Laid Plans 3/4/2024 I am a list maker. I will admit that right off the bat. I like to make lists so I can cross them off and say they are done. Nothing is more annoying or frustrating to a list maker than to make a list and not be able to cross things off because "things" get in the way.
