The Alphabet Book Challenge: F
The "F" Books
Okay, I will admit, I did check out two books written by authors whose last names started with the letter F. One of them was a dud. It sucked big time. The second one was not bad, but I forgot to photograph it. Crimony! This is why I need to write the reviews right after I finish the books! Sorry :)
Book one: Bridget Jones's Diary by Helen Fielding
You may have seen the movie starring Renee Zellweger. It's a wonderfully fun, quirky movie. Well, the book is even better. (Of course). Bridget Jones is a relatable character. Every woman can relate to her. She is not thin, perfectly put together, and built like an hourglass cartoon figure. She is honest, relatable, and genuine. It is so nice and refreshing to read about a character who is like a real person.
I was hooked from the very first page, where she lists her New Year's Resolutions.
I WILL NOT
Drink more than fourteen units of alcohol a week ...
Spend more than I earn ...
Bitch about anyone behind their backs, but be positive about everyone.
I was emotionally connected to the character because I could relate to her. Suffering through her love life adventures, mistakes, and missteps, I realized I am fine. Everyone goes through these things. Bridget gave me hope. I wanted to meet with her and go out for a drink.
If you haven't read this book, I strongly suggest it. The movie is good, but you and I both know that the movie never includes everything the book does.

Book Two: See Jane Run by Joy Fielding
I found this book (a long time ago at a store in Pike Place Market. The title was intriguing, and the blurb made me want to know more).
One afternoon, Jane Whitaker went to the store for some eggs and milk and forgot who she was. She doesn't know her name, her age, or even what she looks like. Frightened and alone, she wanders the streets of Boston in a blood-soaked blue dress carrying $10,000 dollars in her pocket.
Are you intrigued? I was. This book was published in 1992, before cellphones and the internet were all the rage. Imagine waking up with no idea of who you are or why you are covered in blood. Imagine having this strange man tell you he is your husband. There are pictures of the two of you together, but something is missing, something is off, and why was there blood on your blue dress?
Thus begins a great mystery that has inspired a ton of similar movies. I swear I watched two last week. What happened to Jane? The writer does a great job leading you through the story. You are in the character's head. You are emotionally connected and invested. The mystery keeps you turning pages, and when you get to the end ... well, let's just say, you are one hundred percent satisfied.
If you can find this book, READ IT ***** it puts all of those lifetime, hallmark, and other movies to shame.
